How To Clean Outdoor Furniture

Metal and Plastic Furniture (includes wrought iron)

Begin by hosing down the furniture to remove any cobwebs or other dirt and debris.  Wipe down with a mixture of warm water and mild dish washing soap.  Finish by hosing down and let sit to dry.

Wood Furniture (includes teak and wicker)

With a mixture of warm water and a mild oil-based soap, use a soft scrub brush to gently scrub the wicker.  Finish by hosing down and let sit to dry.

Bonus Tip: Hose down every few weeks to prevent dirt buildup in crevices.

Outdoor Cushions

  • 1 teaspoon dish washing detergent
  • 1 quart warm water
  • 1 tablespoon Borax

Combine the above ingredients in a bucket and use a sponge to apply the mixture to the cushions- making sure to pay extra attention to the crevices of the cushion.  Once the entire cushion has been treated, let sit for 10-15 minutes and then wash the solution off using a hose.  In an area out of direct sunlight, stand cushions on their side and let dry.
